UNH Mechanical Engineering Candidate for a Position at Pratt & Whitney Presentation

DescriptionPowerPoint Presentations are almost always terrible.
Here are some guidelines to make them less bad.
Well done presentations are not complicated, but they do take work
Body Language
Make sure to answer these questions at the very beginning of a talk
What is the subject?
Why does it matter?
What background is
Use a single complete sentences of no more than two lines at the top of each slide
If you need a list, pair
each point with a picture

Make parts. Does
the tool hold up?
Avoid extra visual embellishments, instead use a images, graphs, tables, or pictures to
help your audience understand your main point.
Reuse the images from
the first slide to show
listeners where you are.
This extra cooling dramatically reduces cycle time
Structure your talk in a logical way, and make clear transitions
Let the audience know when you are moving to a new topic!
Select an appropriate scope and depth for the talk
Going out on a limb is high risk / high reward
Good presentations take time. Practice! Practice! Practice!
Watch out for distracting motion
You have options on what to do with your hands, but do not make them distractions
Structure your slides well, consider the scope/audience, and
practice body control to have a successful presentation
Business Communications
Convince, inform, and document with professionalism
Not all your professional writing will be technical in nature
It is still important
It is tempting to treat all electronic communications like you
are texting a friend. Don’t do it!
Formats for these documents can vary,
but the general organization is the same for all
Example Memo
In summary… People will judge you on your writing.
Take the time to do it right.
Keep it brief
Keep it professional

To: Pratt & Whitney Representative 400 Main St East Hartford, CT 06118
Dear: HR Representative
I would like to thank you for the chance to participate in an interview for the Mechanical
Engineering role at Pratt & Whitney on April 14, 2023. As a prospective employee, I was
delighted to meet with you, my potential direct superior, the highest-ranking executive, and
several colleagues with whom I would collaborate if selected. I learned a lot about the
organization’s ethos, functions, and expectations through the interview process. A representative
from the Department of Human Resources provided a lot of valuable information. Through my
experience, I gained insight into the company’s overarching mission and how the Mechanical
Engineering department contributes to the achievement of the company’s goals. Having the
opportunity to gain further insight into the benefits package, corporate regulations, and
professional demeanor expectations was appreciated by the author. During the selection process,
I had an opportunity to meet my potential direct superior. A discussion of the team’s projects and
my potential contributions was considered important. Innovative thinking, safety, and customer
satisfaction are the hallmarks of the team. The supervisor provided honest feedback regarding the
company’s culture, job requirements, and possible obstacles associated with the position to the
author. I gained a more comprehensive understanding of the organization’s activities and
objectives after meeting the high-ranking executive. Mechanical Engineering team members
appreciated the manager’s insights regarding the company’s plans, growth opportunities, and role
in supporting the company’s mission. It was evident that the company appreciated its employees’
contributions and provided extensive opportunities for professional development. It was very
informative to accompany a potential colleague on a visit to the establishment. A thorough
review of the company’s operations, safety measures, and thorough work were conducted. As a
result of the tour, I was able to meet potential colleagues if I am hired. I gained valuable insight
into the team’s ongoing initiatives and future endeavors through the meeting with multiple
stakeholders I will collaborate with. I found the third presentation to be both fascinating and
enlightening. It was a pleasure to learn more about 1 Central Connecticut State University the
imaginative solutions devised by the team and the challenges they encountered. Passion,
dedication, and commitment to excellence were evident throughout the team.
