RU Impact of Chinese Government Corruption on Western Society Dissertation

Description

Question:  To what extent has corruption within the Chinese government had an effect on western society?
When discussing “the effect on western society” section also include how its affected western governments and businesses too but make sure to explain that in the introduction.Elements of a dissertation
Not all dissertations will be structured in the same way. The elements you include and the structure of
your dissertation will vary depending on what you need to communicate.
Some dissertations will rely on primary sources; and if so, they will require a methodology, which
explains how and why certain types of data were collected and analysed. Other dissertations will rely
more heavily on secondary sources and develop arguments that engage with the academic literature on
the topic; and therefore will not necessarily require a methodology section.
Some common elements include:
Introduction
Establish the context, background and/or importance, relevance of the topic
Present an issue, problem, or controversy in the field of study
Establish your research question(s) and provide a clear answer
This is often missed out: tell your reader what you are going to argue up front. Your dissertation should
not read like a mystery!
Provide a roadmap of the dissertation structure and how each section builds to support the argument
Literature review
Discuss and critically evaluate existing research related to your topic
You wouldn’t expect a film review to just describe the plot. You want to be told its strengths and
weaknesses; you want to know whether to watch the film. Think of your literature review in the same
way: why would the reader want to read on?
Your literature review should make clear the gap/problem that you are trying to address!
What will your dissertation tell the reader that they cannot already learn from the literature out there
already?
Theoretical framework
This is the approach you are taking in order to answer your research question.
It is the tool you use to help you explain why or how a particular phenomenon exists or functions.
Methodological design (only if applicable)
Discuss the design (case study/comparative etc.):
Why is a case study the best way of answering this question?
Explain the methods you will use to collect your data:
Why are media reports or political speeches relevant?
Discuss the reasoning behind your data/case selection:
How does this particular case study help answer the question?
Explain how you will analyse these data or cases:
What are you looking for and how will you find it?
Analysis/ Findings/ Argument
This is the core of the piece. The arguments you make here should draw on your evidence and provide
your unique and original take on the topic and question you have posed.
Discuss what your findings suggest
Look back at your theory to interpret your findings and explain what they tell us
Conclusion
This is the “looking back” section
Provide your final comment or judgement on the importance of your case study or implications of your
argument
Connect your study back to the literature to suggest future directions
Bibliography
This should provide a list of all the sources you used for your dissertation in alphabetical order.
You can find tips on referencing and bibliographies here.
Appendix
This is often not necessary for an undergraduate dissertation. In an appendix you can include material
that does not belong in the dissertation but might be useful to the reader. For example:
If you did interviews you might include your interview questions.
If you searched a media database for news stories on a particular case, you might include your search
terms.
If you analysed a data set you might include the full dataset.
