Metabolism is different in different cells of the body. Some cells such as the brain can ONLY use Glucose as the energy source. Cells such as muscle cells can oxidize both fatty acids and glucose to obtain ATP. It always important to remember that aerobic cellular respiration produces the maximum energy per molecule of Acetyl CoA. Anaerobic respirat ion can generate energy but at a much lower level.
1. Apply what you learned this week to answer last week’s question, where is the energy stored to generate ATP through the ATP synthase (an endergonic reaction) ?
2. You eat the same amount of food. On Day 1, you spend all day in front of a screen studying. On Day 2 you study for while and intersperse this studying with exercising or vigorous physical activity. Most people report that they feel more “energized” on Day 2. 5. Mammals such as desert rats live in areas that have no surface water. They survive in this environment without consuming any water by eating seeds with extremely high fat content.
