Task – Report
You are an HR Consultant and have been approached by an organisation that has grown rapidly
over the past 12 months to help them to manage their growing recruitment requirements. In the first
instance they want to understand more about talent management and workforce planning to help
them to decide what resources they need to help them to manage their needs.
The initial task they have identified for you is to provide them with a formal report which will help
them to:

Understand the key contemporary labour market trends and their significance for workforce
planning. (introduction)

Understand the purpose and importance of workforce planning. (findings)

Understand the purpose and impact of effective talent management. (conclusions)

Understand the importance of managing contractual arrangements and effective
onboarding. (recommendations)
The plan is for the report to be distributed to the senior management team in advance of the
next SMT meeting where it will be discussed, and plans made. You need to ensure the report is
clear and well supported by appropriate theory and legislation. Please provide clear guidance
on where your resources can be found in the form of a comprehensive bibliography.
Please use the AC numbers as your headings as this will help the SMT to discuss the report.
In your final paragraph you are required to provide them with your recommendations to help with
their talent management and workforce planning – should they recruit a resourcing team or
outsource the task?
Your evidence must consist of:

Formal business report approximately 3900 words (refer to CIPD wordcount policy) and must
cover all the learning outcomes and the assessment criteria in the Assessment Criteria
checklist.

Assessment Criteria marking descriptors.
Assessors will mark in line with the following assessment criteria (AC) marking descriptors, and will
indicate where the learner sits within the marking band range for each AC.
Assessors must provide a mark from 1 to 4 for each assessment criteria within the unit. Assessors
should use the mark descriptor grid as guidance so they can provide comprehensive feedback that
is developmental for learners. Please be aware that not all the mark descriptors will be present in
every assessment criterion, so assessors must use their discretion in making grading decisions.
The grid below shows the range for each unit assessment result based on total number of marks
awarded across all assessment criteria.
To pass the unit assessment learners must achieve a 2 (Low Pass) or above for each of the
assessment criteria.
The overall result achieved will dictate the outcome the learner receives for the unit, provided
NONE of the assessment criteria have been failed or referred.
Please note that learners will receive a Pass or Fail result from the CIPD at unit level. Referral
grades can be used internally by the centre.
